Therapy Resources For Families with a Heart Defect
Ages Prenatal - 24 years
When a child has a chronic illness such as a CHD, everyone in the family is affected. Both adults and children often need help understanding and managing their thoughts and feelings, and developing better coping strategies. Therapy can help. Here are some resources that can help families living with a heart defect to find a therapist. Families can also contact their doctor or cardiac developmental team for help.
Tools to Find a Therapist
Many families find therapists by talking with their primary care physicians and/or insurance companies. Hospitals may also offer therapy directly through psychiatry, psychology, social work, palliative care, and/or cardiac neurodevelopment.
However, sometimes families struggle to find an appropriate therapist for everyone who needs it. The below links can help families to connect to a therapist that is affordable, accessible, and aligned with their values and goals.

Developmental care is best when it is local. Families from other regions can use the link below to find their local care team.
